Opportunity Overview
Nottingham University Business School is excited to announce two full PhD scholarships aimed at recruiting high-caliber and enthusiastic researchers. These scholarships are available for one international and one home PhD student, beginning on 1st February 2025.
- International Scholarship: Covers tuition fees of £23,500 and a yearly stipend of £19,237.
- Home Scholarship: Covers tuition fees of £5,350 and a yearly stipend of £19,237.
Both scholarships are for a period of three years.
PhD Pathways
The Business School consists of eight departments and offers PhD pathways in the following areas:
- Business and Management
- Business and Society
- Finance and Risk
- Industrial Economics
Strategic Research Topic Areas
Each department has outlined strategic research topics:
- Corporate Governance and Climate Reporting (Accounting)
- AI-Enhanced Sustainable Finance and Risk Management (Finance, Risk, and Banking)
- Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation (Hyden Green Institute)
- Contemporary Issues in Industrial Economics (Industrial Economics)
- Marketing for the Greater Good (Marketing)
- Sustainable Work and Employment (Organisational Behaviours and Human Resource Management)
- Contemporary Supply Chain Management to Enhance Sustainability and/or Resilience (Operations Management and Information Systems)
- Sustainability in Business (Strategy and International Business)
Application Process
Eligibility Requirements:
- A 2.1 or higher honours degree in a relevant discipline in social sciences.
- A master’s degree with a substantial research element, scoring 65% or above in taught modules and dissertation.

How we support you
Finance shouldn't be a barrier to delivering world-leading research. Our ethos is ‘success for all’, so if you’ve got the talent, the perspectives and the capacity to drive change, we’ll support you. In return for the contribution you'll make to our research activity, our fully-funded PhD studentships will:
- cover the full cost of your PhD fees
- fund the research project, including field or lab work
- provide a tax-free stipend for your living expenses.
You’ll also be able to access support to present your work at at least one conference. All of our studentships are open to both UK and international students.
As a doctoral candidate at NTU you will become a big part of an interdisciplinary community of like-minded people who are passionate about driving innovation In Digital, Technology and Creative, Health Innovation and Safety and Sustainability with a full programme of events, seminars and sandpits. You will also automatically become a member of our institution-wide Doctoral School which offers a comprehensive programme of training and events that support all our doctoral candidates to grow, change, learn, and to build their interdisciplinary networks. You'll be able to access workshops on everything from academic writing to innovative research methods, from healthy research practices to open research and publishing. We support our candidates throughout their doctoral journey, enabling them to reach their potential as developing experts in their field.
